One of my favorite blogs to visit is
Gates of Vienna. Yesterday, a guest blogger posted a Dr. Seusse like
poem about the prophet Mohammed (pieces be upon him) that rankled a long time reader, who happens to be Muslim.
I think that
today's post, in responding to said reader, is brilliant! It is so hard for me to explain, even to myself, why there is a difference between us fighting in Iraq (and Israel fighting in Lebanon) and Islamo-Nazis coming to the United States and fighting here. I know it stems from my formal education. In the 7th or 8th grade I remember a teacher telling us that NO one culture is ever better than another.
And I struggled with that. If there isn't any difference between my culture, and say a cannibal society, then what stops us from descending down into the depths of anarchy. Of course my thoughts weren't that deep then...but I still struggle with that idea of all societies being 'equal'. They aren't "wrong" they are just different from us. That is what my teacher taught and what I soaked up with my young "skull full of mush."
I know deep down that this is crap. But articulating it logically is another issue altogether. So Barron's post today just made my day because he so well articulates what I know to be truth.
